Abstract

This deliverable aims at describing the evolution of architecture and design of the Semantic Business Process Execution Engine (SBPELEE). The first version of the architecture has been described in Deliverabe D6.1 in M9. During the further development, the overall architecture evolved and has been concretized. The Semantic Service Bus (SSB) has become a major integration component; it has been decided to use Apache ServiceMix as the implementation bases for the SSB. Such decisions required small modifications of both, architecture and design of the SBPELEE. ServiceMix for instance provides a different deployment mechanism which can be employed to ease the deployment of Semantic Business Processes. In addition the communication gateway of the engine and the event notification mechanisms needed to be adapted to this platform. This deliverable does not repeat the full architecture in details but rather depicts the differences to originally designed architecture as described in D6.1 and D6.2 in order to provide a consistent documentation. The remainder of this deliverable is structured as follows. In Section 2 we align the document’s content with the core assets of SUPER, i.e. the overall architecture, the sBPM methodology, the modelling/ontology stack, and the use cases. Subsequently, in Section 3, we briefly summarize the core concepts of the Semantic Business Process Execution Engine. Finally, changes made to former architecture and their rationales are presented.
